Walk, run, hike, and golf more efficiently with custom foot orthotics
Custom foot orthotics (CFOs) are commonly recommended to treat foot-specific conditions, such as plantar fasciitis/heel pain, metatarsalgia, and ankle pain. But orthotics are not just for foot pain. Optimizing foot and ankle biomechanics with CFOs often alleviates conditions of the knees, hips, pelvis and back. Custom foot orthotics optimize the functional integrity of the foot and leg by maintaining proper anatomical alignment and controlling abnormal or excessive motion.
Custom orthotics can be an invaluable tool, in combination with chiropractic, soft tissue treatments, and therapeutic exercises, in alleviating various types of pain due to biomechanical imperfections. The addition of custom orthotics to a treatment regimen can be particularly helpful for chronic pain, or for conditions that keep recurring over and over. In such cases, normalizing foot and leg biomechanics can restore alignment and remove the root cause of the pain.
Why choose a sports chiropractor to perform your orthotic evaluation?
Current evidence supports a biomechanical evaluation that considers the entire kinetic chain when evaluating for orthotics, rather than the feet alone. Drs. Andy & Jen utilize a biomechanical evaluation that includes analysis of the foot/ankle complex, knees, hips, pelvis and spine.
There are 3 key components to a proper custom orthotic evaluation/fitting
- Static and dynamic biomechanical evaluation of the entire kinetic chain – (we need to see the joints when standing still and when in motion)
- A walking imprint of your foot to identify pressure points while you are in motion
- A mold of the neutrally positioned foot ensures perfect fit with your anatomy
Are custom orthotics right for me?
Not everyone is a candidate for custom foot orthotics. Some lucky folks have been gifted with excellent biomechanics and injury resistance. For the rest of us, a variety of clinical factors must be considered before deciding if a custom orthotic will be effective for your condition. We suggest you contact our office to further discuss your condition with Dr Andy or Dr. Jen.
